Meet Your Mask
Mask-making and performance workshop at Hartwig Proxy, co-led by Chun Shing Au Amsterdam, Netherlands
March – April 2026
Masks aren’t just a pretty face. Masks have real jobs: they transform, encrypt, conduct rituals, commit a crime, improve confidence, give voice, attract, avoid, evade, and soothe, to name a few.
Meet your Mask was a five-week introductory mask-making workshop. Participants made their own papier–mâché masks alongside shared research in puppetry and masquerade. In later sessions, the group practiced how to perform in their masks with the dramaturgical guidance of object-based theater maker and artist Chun Shing Au. The workshop culminated in a public event at Hartwig Proxy with an improvised performance by Anya Palamartschuk, Chaelim Kwon, and Romy Day Winkel, with Lili Huston-Herterich in the mask of Helen Bolderman.
