There's no such thing as a baby, she says

MFA graduate thesis, available as a .pdf online here.

March 2019

There's no such thing as a baby (Briggs 2019), meaning a baby is never alone. I think about "baby" and its relationship to beginnings, and also its dependency on "mother". Could this project be about origins? This is a collection of texts written towards the questions of who and what I am with and where these things come from.

It considers the context and interdependence of my practice on multiple levels: with ideas, people, materials, methods, history, and inheritance.

Ongoing thank you to Kate Briggs, Liesbeth Bik, Katarina Zdjelar, Margaret Huston, Werner Herterich, Elizabeth Huston-Herterich, Tor Jonsson, Katharina Cameron, Erin Alexa Freedman, Alex Iezzi, Laurie Kang, Parker Kay, Merve Kılıçer, Collette Rayner, Bobby Sayers, Vivian Sky Rehberg, and the tutors and students of the Piet Zwart Institute: All whom provided the time, space, and attention this project required.
