Untitled (cyanotype quilt)
A collaborative quilt project with community members on Fogo Island, Newfoundland.
This quilt was made during a summer term teaching cyanotype workshops to community members on Fogo Island, Newfoundland. With a deep tradition of quilting, this project was produced using an old, damaged traditional flour-sack quilt that I had mistakenly used as a dropcloth during a Visiting Artist term the previous year. In order to restore the quilt and integrate it back into the community, I led free workshops on cyanotype printing, asking each participant to produce a textile square that could be quilted onto the damaged side of the found piece, rendering it new again. The binding cames from a recycled cotton work shirt, also found on the island.
